Inishowen is internationally respected for its rich living tradition of unaccompanied singing. In 2023 members of this song community and local choral singers struck out on a new path, forming ‘Inishowen Trad Choir’ under the guidance of Lorna McLaughlin (The Henry Girls). The adult (18+) mixed choir welcomes voices of all ranges and ability. There is no requirement to read music and no audition to join.
Thanks to funding from Creative Ireland, Donegal Co Co and the Dept of TCAGSM, ITSC has commissioned Derry based composer Neil Burns to give a new sound to local songs through unique four-part arrangements of the material. Neil’s arrangements are then made available as a full learning pack for each song: recordings, words, staff notation, and background on the song and the original Inishowen singer.
Our ambition is introduce new singers and new audiences to the wealth of our local song tradition in the months and years to come.
