Relaunch of the

Inishowen Song Project

In collaboration with the Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) the Inishowen Traditional Singers’ Circle will relaunch the Inishowen Song Project website on 10 December 2021.

The song project is a unique 2,000-item microsite presenting the traditional singers and songs of the Inishowen peninsula, Co Donegal, and incorporating digital sound and video recordings, books, photographs, transcriptions of song texts, and metadata catalogue information for each item.

The Inishowen Traditional Singers’ Circle

We are a voluntary organisation formed in 1988 to encourage, foster and perpetuate the folk song and ballad tradition of the Inishowen Peninsula. We are based in Clonmany, Donegal.

On the second Friday of the months September until June the Inishowen Traditional Singers’ Circle run a session, either in McFeeley’s Bar, Clonmany or in the North Pole Bar, Drumfries. We are indebted to James & Orla in McFeeley’s and to Hilda in the North Pole for providing such warm and welcoming venues for the sessions. While the night mainly revolves around singing, we often have a few tunes thrown in, as well as plenty good company and craic. We welcome all to the sessions to sing, play or sit back and listen.

Songs as Gaeilge from Inishowen

This 30 minutes film, produced during Covid restrictions by the Inishowen Traditional Music Project (ITMP), features a host of local musicians and singers bringing new life to six songs in the native Irish of Inishowen.

ITMP was delighted to work with Mairéad Ní Mhaoinaigh, Colm O’Tuathaláin and Pádraig Ó Dochartaigh.
