Charlie McGonigle
(James Eoghain)
Charlie McGonigle was born in Cloontagh. Brother to Jim, Pat, Michael, Annie Hirrell and Mary Gill he was a founder member of the Inishowen Traditional Singers’ Circle and was one of its most ardent supporters. He learned many of his songs from his late father, James Eoghain and was one of a large family who are and were all fine singers. Charlie passed away in August 2012 and his larger than life presence is hugely missed. Charlie wass married to Roseanne and their son Kevin is the current chairman of the Inishowen Traditional Singers’ Circle, both of whom can be heard elsewhere in the Song Project.
